Next Steps

Bags are packed and I’m about to head outside my homestay to wait for the shuttle bus that will take me to the airport in Denpasar. Fully equipped with a Michael Cunningham novel I managed to find in the “for sale” pile at the Pondok Pekak library and the newish Fleet Foxes album. I’ll be getting on a plane at 4pm to Kuala Lumpur and after a brief layover, flying to Bangalore, India.

I’ll spend the night in Bangalore (what’s left of the night by the time I get in, anyway) and tomorrow I’ll be making the 3-hour drive to Mysore where I will be staying with an Indian family for a few weeks. In another small world connection, a colleague of my mom whose daughter I used to babysit for has family in India who has generously volunteered to host me while I’m there. I’ll be passed between their relatives in southern India for my first few weeks there (Mysore, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad) before eventually making my way up north and flying out of Delhi on November 14th. At least that’s the plan.

I’m going to keep my eyes wide open on the way to the airport to soak up every last drop of this place. Thanks to my beloved friend and kindred spirit, Hadley Elizabeth Southall Roach, for giving me an anthem for these days:
